Cream of Wheat

Cream of wheat with raspberries and blueberries

Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups water or milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cream of wheat
Raisins, nuts, fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar (optional)

Instructions:
1. Boil the water or milk on a stovetop in a saucepan. When the liquid is boiling you can add the salt, then the cereal while whisking. Add raisins or other optional ingredients if desired. Then, depending on the variety of Cream of Wheat, continue to simmer and whisk the cereal for the time directed on the box. You may need to lower the heat slightly so it doesn't boil over. When the cereal is thickened, it is ready to eat.

Notes: Grandma and Grandpa were very particular about not having any lumps in their cream of wheat! They also preferred to add the raisins right after the cereal so that they get soft. You can top with your favorite fruits or nuts for a delicious and nutritious start to the day. If you wash the pan and dishes immediately it is a lot easier than if you wait until later!
